Atri is a town of artistic interest in the province of Teramo: its numerous monuments and particularly attractive town centre make of it one of the most important tourist destinations from Pineto which is just 10 km away. One feature of the Atri hills is the unique Nature Reserve of the Badlands, accentuated forms of erosion which cast spectacular colours and unreal effects on the landscape.
The Laga Mountains together with Gran Sasso massif, constitute one of the most spectacular and extensive national parks as far as natural habitat is concerned. Only forty minutes away from Pineto it is considered the ideal place for excursions in summer discovering wolves, bears, chamoises and more. Pineto is also a city for sports with lots of different facilities: tennis courts, a skating rink and football fields. Sailing, diving and cycling.
Art and culture are traditionally represented in entertainment programme: a series of annual events are held every year.
It is possible to visit the Campli's Holy Staircase, a place of pilgrimage and offers the opportunity to visit the Palazzo Farnese and other religious buildings. Castelbasso and Elice, two fortified medieval villages that every summer celebrate a revival and they boast a month of theatre, folklore events, enogastronomy and musical events. Rocca Calascio, one of the most famous fortresses in Italy, was the Ladyhawk film location. It is located at 1500 meters high, one of the highest fortifications in Italy, in a landscape of surrounding fields, dominating the valley which lies much further below. Civitella del Tronto has paleolithic origins and enclosed within its walls, its famous fortress, considered one of the most important strongholds in Italy: it is a well preserved Spanish fort. Than Castelli, a tiny town that is famous for its artistic production of pottery which earned it international fame. Besides its international collection of ceramic art, Castelli boasts a splendid majolica ceiling.
The city of Pescara is only 15 minutes far from Pineto and it is possible to visit the attractive old town center with its Via delle Caserme and the famous house of the poet D'Annunzio. By night, the city turns into a place full of entertainments like the Pescara Jazz Festival which, since 1969, has a history of international special guests including Miles Davis, Ella Fizgerald and Pat Metheny and takes place in the marvellous setting of the pine wood.
